BRZ & FR-S Easy Comparison Breakdown

I mentioned in another thread that I'd post up a comparison between the BRZ and FR-S to hopefully clear up any confusion that might be out there about the true differences in these two cars. So here it is. I layed out in a table the pricing, standard features, and notable options of the FR-S and the two trim levels of the BRZ. This summary neglects a lot of the "common knowledge" info such as 2.0 litre boxer engine, tire size, etc... as those things are the same for all models, and focuses on the traits that really distinguish one model from another.

I made note of the price for the white color on the FR-S because it was the only color option that had added cost.

This article here has a nice write-up on the underlying differences between the two cars. The things you feel rather than see.

The following few posts will be a picture illustration of the interior and exterior differences between the BRZ and FR-S.

The Scion interior definitely seems to be styled more towards younger folks, the Subie a bit more grown-up. That said, I kinda like the exterior of the Scion better.

Do you live in Australia, want a BRZ, and have an extra $7k burning a hole in your pocket?!?! Have I got a deal for you!!!!

The totally affordable "BRZS" model gives you a strut tower brace, STI coilovers, some dumb aero bits, a set of admittedly very classy wheels, an STI shift knob, and an STI engine start button.

All this for just $7k over the price of the standard BRZ. Those coilovers better be made of unobtainium...

I prefer the look of my stocker to that car.
It's weird, I have yet to see any aesthetic mod that appeals to me.

Yowser. Those aero bits don't at all look like an afterthought. "I know, we'll glue some bits of plastic to the car. That'll add to the prestige." $7k doesn't go very far in Oz though. It'd probably be more like $4k here. Still, a lot of money.

However, those are some nice wheels.

I'm not gonna go through 72 pages but I will say that my brother in law and I went to look at an FR-S about 2 weeks ago. Comfort, interior and ESPECIALLY the shifter! It felt awesome!! was all very nice. Naturally I am spoiled by a stage 3 turbo WRX and while I envy the handling of the FR-S/BRZ, the lack of power just turned me completely off to everything. I wouldn't be willing to spend 4-7 grand on a SC/TC set-up.

I did read some reports that they may up the power to 230 (no turbo) but that's really not much. It was also stated that no turbo would be going into this car... BUT they would say they because if they announced a TC version people wouldn't be buying the current car as much either.

With the AT and 34 mpg that's a nice little add on though.

Yeah, if you're a "breathtaking acceleration" guy, it's not the right car for you. Having said that, now that I'm out of break-in with my BRZ, I'm really enjoying the sounds and the throttle response as you zoom towards 7400 rpms. It basically accelerates on par with my original, stock bugeye that I bought in 2002...though with a different power delivery.

    The handling is just sublime.
