AT SEMA it seemed like every FRS sold was there. I think the official count was 162 FRS's/BRZ's. Most of them either had Vortech's supercharger kit, or a custom turbo setup.

The Vortech Supercharger kit was very simple, very efficient (small straight runs of tubing), and bolted right on the front of the engine.

The custom turbo was more involved, and the turbo was hidden way on the back side of the motor. The BRZ in the Exedy Racing booth made 550HP from a GTX3076 IIRC.

It was amazing to see them all there, it's like they had been out for 10 years. Everyone made body kits (from mild to Time attack wide body), exhaust, suspension, power adders, interior bits, wheels, you name it. I have never seen the aftermarket come out in such large numbers with soo much support the first year of a car.

AND I have never seen so many of the same car at SEMA before, its got to be a record. Even the really small vendors had FRS's.

What it tells me is that the car community has been longing for this type of car for a looong time. Here's to hoping the other MFG's make good on their promise for competitors and we have a whole host of competitors.

Did any of the exhibits have numbers for how much the Vortech added? Certainly a proven approach. The site doesn't seem to have any info (yet) for pricing/power.

No..not especially. Often times at SEMA there is soo much car pr0n, that most exhibitors either don't know the specifics of the car in the booth (built by third party, customers car, arranged by someone else) or don't have it displayed. I would expect it to fall in line with Vortechs typical power output gains of 55-60% for intercooled systems, which would put the car around 300hp.

Anything north of 250hp would be, IMO, gracious plenty in a 2800lb, RWD sports car.

Looks like with 5lbs of boost, Perrin made 245hp. They plan to up the boost (smaller pulley) and more aggressive tune.

2-4 weeks for power numbers, but vortech is hoping for 40-50%.

That's a good point. Subaru actually went to some pains to get decent weight balance with the car...

My guess is less than 50 lbs.... probably 30.

The total piping run to the front mount is probably 4 feet max, the compressor is about the size of an alternator and is self lubricating (no oil lines), and the airbox is directly mounted to the compressor and is injection molded plastic.

Fit and finish in person were very nice, I'd say OEM quality or better.

Having seen the turbo and SC kits there, I'd bet the SC kit weighs in at 1/2 the weight of the turbo kit. The turbo ends up almost on the bottom of the engine behind the firewall with piping running to a front mount totaling around 16-18'. Then the oil lines, bracketry, manifold probably put it in the 60-80lb range easy.

That being said, the supercharger takes power to make power, and having owned a small displacement SC'd car, Idk if that is a sacrifice I would be willing to make. That and the turbo kit puts the majority of the weight behind the front axle, where as the Vortech kit puts it all in front of the front axle.

From a visual stand point the Vortech kit is much more appealing.

Rumors are that Toyota will keep up with its tradition and offer a TRD SC kit for the FRS, while Subaru will keep with tradition and will offer a turbo'd STi version of the car in the coming future (perhaps 2 weeks at LAAS).

If the new 2014 Forrester are any indication, The BRZ STI will get a front mount and no hood scoop.

The 2014 Forester retains the TMIC without a hood scoop.

More rumors/speculation about a BRZ STI: 230bhp Subaru BRZ | Auto Express

    *Better brakes, suspension, STI-specific exterior

*NA engine tweaks to 230-ish hp

    *Better seats, gauges, etc

Nothing is confirmed of course, but the lack of boost doesn't surprise me.

    This.
Hopefully the wing is just to get people jazzed up at the car shows.
