The day after mashing around an ice course in Park City, Utah, we sat down with one of Subaru's product planners to discuss what the automaker has in store in the near-term. Our questions ranged from Subaru's thoughts about adopting torque-vectoring all-wheel drive ("We're looking into it.") to what, if any progress was being made on the Toyobaru front ("No comment").
But when asked about a four-door version of the STI, our question was met with a slightly ****ed head, a small smirk and a faint glimmer in the exec's eye. Could a sedan be in the cards?
Maybe. But judging by this solitary teaser of the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, it appears that the rally-bred hatch is getting an all-new wing inspired by Subaru's dearly-departed WRC contender. We'll know for sure on Thursday when the wraps officially come off at the New York Auto Show.

from TMR(The Motor Report):
EARLIER TODAY, Subaru released a single silhouetted teaser image of the upcoming 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Moments later, the keen enthusiasts at TMR launched into a debate on whether the updated WRX STI will be 'little more' than the existing five-door hatch with a wing, or an STI version of the newly-flared WRX sedan.
Before bets are made and someone loses the family home, we decided to prepare some overlay images and put it to the readers. In all likelihood, the car is as most suspect: the hatch with a Subaru rally-inspired wing. Still...
I'm really hoping it is the hatch...only so I won't buy one. If they bring back the STI sedan I know I'll have to get it.
The wing returns, and yet the ugliness remains...

Finally Stage II!
That wing looks like it would be atrocious. I'd probably still end up getting the hatch IMO.
