Blew the engine on my 05 wrx, getting new engine put in by subaru dealer, what is needed to go to a gt 3076 turbo safely?

wow, a gt30 huh. I hope you have deep pockets. To properly run this turbo you will need alot of internal work as well as everything else. Why not go for a 20g, or one of the common vf series turbo's, like the vf52 or vf39 etc. However at the very least you will need a bigger fuel pump, injectors, proper engine management and a tune. Look around for better options. A gt3076 is a big jump and will require thousands in upgrades to be ran.

Yeah I was looking at that because my buddy has a 07 wrx with a gt30 on it, he just has head studs, fuel pump, and 850cc injectors on a tune.

Must be a very very conservative tune with low psi in order for it to run safely. If not, your friends wrx may be a ticking time bomb. This turbo is usually used by people that have BUILT their engines to handle that kind of power. You know that this particular turbo is good up to around 500whp right? Unless subaru is installing a built block in your car, stay away.

Here's a link. Also this turbo should be a direct bolt on to your 05. It is a very popular turbo on our cars and will make good power also. A much wiser decision over the garrett turbo IMO.

So you recommend blouch over Garrett or Greddy? And TD06 over td05?

Blouch makes a very good turbo. So, yes, i would put them right up there with garrett. The TD06 is a popular upgrade for our cars. The only mods you should really need to run it is bigger fuel pump, injectors, a better intercooler, and a tune. And again it is a direct bolt on replacement.

I am by no means taking anything away from garrett turbo's though. They make great power and great products. The "much wiser" comment was just referring that the blouch 20g will be a much friendlier turbo to upgrade too over the gt30.

If you're going with a 20g you'll need appropriate supporting mods. That's also going to add a lot of stress on your stock 5 speed.

A FMIC would be fine if ran with the 20g. But it is not needed. Look up process west intercoolers. They make a very nice top mount for our cars that would be perfect for your build. Plus it would be cheaper. And since this is your first build of a car like this. Do lots of research. Once you think your brain is full of subaru tuning knowledge, read everything again. These cars can be very tempermental and require a pro-tune for pretty much every upgrade after a stage 2 setup.

Agreed, And this is the point im trying to get across to him. You cant just buy a big turbo and slap it on our cars. But a 20g will be much easier to handle than what he was originally interested in. If it was my build i would probably do a 16g.

My problem is I'm going to have to trailer my car everywhere after every mod because there are no all wheel drive tuning places within 100 miles of me... and in reply to the stress on the tranny, I have a brand new tranny in my car with about 3000 miles on it with a stage 2 clutch
