Last year, Mercedes scored their first win of the modern era when Nico Rosberg handily won from pole position. His teammate, Michael Schumacher, started alongside him, but ultimately ended his race early after a mistake by the team allowed him to exit the pits with a loose wheel. Both Mclarens chased Rosberg, albeit from a distance, and rounded out the podium steps with Hamilton's third race in a row finishing third. The RBRs finished 4th and 5th despite Webber's typical bad start and Seb's car being only 19th fastest through the speed traps. Grosjean finished 6th while Kimi struggled to a lowly 14th. Alonso could only manage 9th with Massa in 13th.

This year, little has changed amongst the pecking order at the top teams, with the exception of Mclaren's struggles and Lotus' excellent race pace.

Vettel leads the championship with 40 points after quite literally stealing the win from his teammate in Sepang. Are Christian Horner's comments correct about things being settled between his drivers, or will this race reopen old wounds?

Alonso stumbled a bit by retiring in Sepang, but Massa carried the banner high for Ferrari by bringing the car home fifth. Will the difficulties of last year be confined to the history books or are they doomed to repeat unlearned lessons?

Mercedes appears to be the second-strongest constructor after a relatively easy 3-4 finish in Malaysia, even if they never had the pace to match the RBRs. Hamilton has won this race, and indeed lost a championship, at this race before. Rosberg will be dreaming of a repeat of last year, though their car lacks the now-banned double-DRS that gave them such amazing straight-line speed.

Mclaren could spring a surprise if the 3-week break has allowed them to unlock the potential of the car that seems so sensitive to ride height. Watch their pace in practice, because they know how to set up a car to win here.

Will Kimi return to form last seen in Melbourne? And where is the pace Grosjean showed last year when was actually able to finish a race?

Finally, what about the also-rans...Sauber, STR, Williams, and Force India? Where is their underlying pace?

Fifty-six laps under the hazy skies in Shanghai will reveal the truth in one week's time!

I would definitely love to see Alonso or one of the Merc's win! Alonso needs a win to catch up in the points after DNF'ing last race!
