How do f1 drivers get chosen?

was just curious about how they get chosen.

normally teams looking for a new driver will hold an open audition; usually a foot race.

Feeder series are sometimes used. Typically karting and/or one of the lesser formulae. Having suitcases full of sponsor money never hurt anyone's chances either. However, generally to get a super license one has to go through a feeder series or two.
