Fernando Alonso has been out on the track in a Ferrari F1 for the first time.

The Spanish driver was photographed on the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France as part of a photoshoot for Ferrari sponsors Santander. The livery is likely to be the one we'll see next season, and it's believed an ulterior motive for shoot was to test how the car looked under lights and on film.

We'll have to wait a bit longer to see the shape of next year's new Ferrari though - beneath the stickers and paint is the body of the 2009 car.

José María López will be named as a driver for the U.S. F1 team on Monday, according to the driver's spokesman.

The deal to be announced on Monday includes sponsorship package of about $8 million, according to a report by the Reuters news agency. The sponsors include the government of Argentina, López's home country.

López, who turns 27 in April, won the championship in Argentina's TC 2000 touring-car championship in 2008 and 2009. He was tipped to be a driver for U.S. F1 in November, provided he could assemble a sponsorship package.

In early 2007, López ran in the American Le Mans Series, driving a Ferrari 430 GT for Corsa Motorsports in the Sebring 12-hour race and for Risi Competizione at St. Petersburg. He ran in the GP2 series in 2005 and 2006.

López served as a test driver for the Renault Formula One team in 2006, after spending two years in Renault's driver development program.

U.S. F1 hasn't named its second driver yet. Speculation has focused on James Rossiter, a British native and former test driver for the Honda Formula One team. Rossiter won the American Le Mans Series race in Detroit in 2008 while driving for Andretti Green Racing.

Glad to see at least one of the drivers announced. There seems to still be some speculation that the team won't make it to the grid but I really hope they do.

While many parents get their baby's first set of booties dipped in bronze, Mercedes GP Petronas have gone and dipped their whole new baby in silver. After taking over the Formula One championship-winning Brawn GP team at the end of the 2009 season, Mercedes-Benz renamed the team and got to work on a 2010 car. While that new MGP W01 won't be officially unveiled until testing at Valencia begins, the team has just shown off the car's new livery on the '09 car.

The new color scheme debuted at a special event held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, and will show up on the new car February 1 in Valencia. The new liquid metal hue recalls the classic Silver Arrows grand prix cars of Mercedes and Auto Union from Germany's glory days of racing. And hard as it is to believe, it's been 55 years since Mercedes had its own racing team.

The MGP W01 will be piloted by Nico Rosberg and some guy named Mike during the 2010 season. Seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher will of course be rejoining team boss Ross Brawn, reviving a partnership that resulted in seven World Championship trophies for Schumi before his retirement in 2006.

I'm actually kind of excited about the new Mercedes team. It is good to have another real big factory team.

I have high hopes for Ferrari this season. Alonso and Massa is a hell of driver line up and if we can just get a good car together.

On a side not I have no idea why Ferrari needs to test their new livery other than the white rear spoiler it's pretty much the same thing they've had since they started putting sponsor logos on cars.
