Fernando is on an old engine at altitude I wouldnt expect a good qualifying for him, I hope it's raining tommorow morning at interlagos.

For now it is dry at Montreal and Button just snatched the pole from me after time expired I'm going to make him pay into going into turn1.

Massa threatened with jail as Brazil turns against him

On the eve of a race that could prove pivotal to the destiny of the F1 2010 crown, Felipe Massa has been warned that should Interlagos become Hockenheim Mark II, he will 'leave in handcuffs'...

In an extraordinary revelation, Felipe Massa has been warned that should he repeat his German Grand Prix action of moving aside to let Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso pass him and gain extra points towards his F1 2010 title bid at Interlagos on Sunday, he could face up to six years in jail.

The F1 world is abuzz ahead of this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix – the penultimate round of what has been a thrillingly unpredictable, topsy-turvy campaign – with the Ferrari situation, or rather, how the Scuderia will manage matters if Massa proves to be quicker than Alonso.

Whilst the Spaniard has generally held the upper hand this season, it is the Brazilian who will be on home turf – literally, as a Paulista in São Paolo – and Massa went unbeaten in qualifying at Interlagos from 2006 to 2008, missing last year's event following his Hungaroring injury.

He would very likely have triumphed in each of the last three Brazilian Grands Prix he has entered, too, but for ceding the lead to then team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in the 2007 edition in order to enable the Finn to nick the crown away from Alonso and McLaren-Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by just a single point.

Which brings us neatly around to Ferrari's current dilemma. Widely censured for the contentious Hockenheim 'team orders' episode of the summer – an incident that many believe the Maranello-based outfit was lucky in the extreme to escape practically scot-free – there is no doubt at all that a similar stunt in Brazil would not be tolerated and could end up costing Alonso all chance of the crown.

So what do Ferrari do if Massa is faster? Try to artfully and surreptitiously manoeuvre the home hero out of the way – not likely to go down particularly well with the thousands partisan supporters thronging the Autódromo José Carlos Pace's grandstands – or accept that Alonso will not score as many points as he may like to in the race? The 2008 world championship runner-up himself is adamant that he knows what his role for the weekend will be.

way to go Nico Hulkenberg Germany Williams-Cosworth

    -----------------------

    Hulkenberg takes surprise Brazilian pole

Nico Hulkenberg used slick tyres better than his rivals to take Brazilian GP pole for Williams.

Nico Hulkenberg upset the remaining F1 championship contenders by claiming Williams' first pole position in five years ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.

The German, whose seat remains under threat for 2010, posted two laps better than anyone else could manage in the ten-minute shoot-out, after each of the contenders switched to slicks for their final assault on top spot. Hulkenberg's timing was best of all, first moving to provisional pole with enough time for a couple more flying laps where the rest of the field had just one.

In the end, however, he didn't need the third effort, but used it to further lower the target time to 1min 14.470secs, opening out a gap of 1.1secs over countryman Sebastian Vettel.

The championship contenders were headed by the Red Bull drivers in second and third, after Fernando Alonso's bid withered into fifth spot, behind McLaren's Lewis Hamilton. The inside line has a slight advantage at Interlagos, however, suggesting Webber and Alonso are not too badly off.

Rubens Barrichello put the second Williams into sixth place, ahead of Robert Kubica, Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa and Vitaly Petrov.

I was hoping for better from Alonso, but he's still far enough up front to be in the running.

It was cool to see Hulkenberg on the pole.

Formula One world champion Jenson Button hailed the swift actions of his police driver after being confronted by an armed gang in Sao Paulo.
Button, his father John, manager Richard Goddard and trainer Mike Collier escaped unharmed following Saturday night's frightening attack that occurred on their return to their hotel after the qualifying session for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The quartet managed to flee the machine-gun wielding assailants as their police protector used the armoured Mercedes he was driving to barge his way through several vehicles.
"We were going back from the track and were outside a shanty town and moving slowly on a busy road," Button told the Mail on Sunday.
"I saw a dog come out, which was very cute. The next thing I saw was a man with a gun. I said 'isn't that a gun?' and as soon as I said that, the driver angled the car and floored it. That's when we saw six men, all of them brandishing machine guns.
"My driver was a legend. He bounced off about five cars. We were driving over the top of them. It was very scary.
"I don't know whether they knew who it was they were ambushing. But I am glad I didn't have my girlfriend Jessica (Michibata) with me. She would have been terrified."
Mr Goddard also praised the officer assigned to protect them, an action purposefully instigated by McLaren given the level of gun crime in Sao Paulo, one of South America's most violent cities. He said: "We were very lucky to have a police driver looking after us because he got us out of what could have been quite a frightening situation.
"The real positive thing to take out of it is that we are all fine and we're all able to look back on it and see it for what it was.
"Obviously from our perspective, luckily it wasn't a lot worse, and luckily the sharp actions of our police driver forcing his way through the traffic like he did was great."

If Jenson had been kidnapped that might have been the end of today's race.

Bravo to Hulkenberg for a driving recital. With inferior equipment he did what he could, always safely for the others, never making rash decisions, always within the rules. Class.
