Perhaps launching a WRX is trickiest at the strip.

IMO: How to launch a WRX well depends on several factors and takes practice. But remember: clutches are cheaper than gears.
lol....a clutch replacement is like $1000+.....

Why would you want or prefer to replace either?

I don't mean to go off subject but have any of you guys gotten clutch smoke when doing these launches?

If so has it resulted in sever damage that resulted in significant clutch wear i.e. you felt a change in where the clutch engages?

    Thanks,

Like how significant a change in clutch engagement? To the point it starts slipping once in a while or not engaging? Or did it feel like the engagement point change?

Any of you guys think seeing smoke come out of the hood going from first to second just that one time didn't really destroy a clutch?

    Thanks again.

Clutches are pretty forgiving, depending on which one you have. The engagement point gets higher when you burn it.

i was at the drag strip last week and i launched at right about 4700rpm and no burnt clutch smell. it took me .182 seconds to react once the light turned green. but on the other not i would rather burn a clutch them break my tranny. also just for info i ran a slower time when i dumped. launching between 4-5k is the way to go. u just have to practice

Revving to 4k and holding the clutch where it grabs is definitely burning the clutch.

hold it right before it grabs

Thanks for the feedback. I use to drive an '06 but I just recently traded in for an 09. It has 1200 miles.

The clutch on the '09 is soo soft it's hard to feel it engage. One time I found that I was holding in the clutch (foot not fully off) for about 5 seconds. The fairly large billow of smoke frightener me. I think my complection is still a good shade of white.

Holding it right before it grabs still leaves space between the two plates. When launching do you guy lift your food off or slip your foot to the side off the clutch to pop it?
