    Stage flash 8 - 14.03.09 11:35

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
“It was a very difficult stage.”

    Car 2 SORDO/MARTI
Arrived at the finish with mud inside the car. Said, “It was very tricky in places.”

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
“It was a good stage for me!” Said he would change his tactics slightly in view of Latvala’s “off’.

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTILA
Went off the road 7.5 kilometres into the stage. Continued after spectators assisted in getting the car back on the road but has dropped outside the top 15 runners. There is some slight damage to the front right of the car. He blamed the “off” on a bad pace note. “It was a left into an immediate right.”

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
“It was okay at first but it gets very tricky after about 11 kilometres.”

    Car 6 H SOLBERG/MENKERUD
    “I am enjoying it”

    Car 7 NOVIKOV/MOSCATT
“It was very tricky and I made some mistakes.”

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
Arrived with mud inside the car. “The windscreen got so bad that I had to wind down the window and the car filled up.”

    Car 11 P SOLBERG/MILLS
“Bloody hell, it’s slippery!” Said that the car slid even in 1st gear and he had to use the handbrake to get round some corners.

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
Exited the stage with slight roof and body damage, after a presumed roll. He has dropped from 6th to 7th.

    Car 14 AL QASSIMI/ORR
“I made a couple of overshoots and it’s not good really.”

    Car 31 BURKART/KOELBACH
“The car was moving around a lot and it was difficult to get traction.”

    Car 32 KOSCIUSZKO/SZCZPANIAK
“We were driving like we were going shopping but we’ve reduced our gap, so it was a good stage for us.”

    Car 133 ARAI/MACNEALL
“I caught Car 139 (Campedelli) near the finish but it was a downhill and it didn’t cost me any time.”

    Car 134 LINARI/CECCI
Arrived at the finish with the front left wheel pushed back almost into the arch. Said he’d done half the stage like that but was not forthcoming as to how the damage happened.

    Car 135 SEMERAD/CEPLECHA
Stopped in stage – reason not yet known

    Car 136 VALDEZ LOPEZ/LUCAS COLL
Has run out of fuel on the main road on the way to SS9

    Car 137 SAUVAN/GORCZYCA
Stopped in stage – reason not yet known

    Car 138 MAYER/TAGAI
“The car’s okay but I’m not good and am having a very bad day.” (The driver looked unwell.)

    Car 139 CAMPEDELLI/FAPPANI
“We lost the rear differential in SS7 and had to drive this one in front-wheel drive.”

    Stage flash 9 - 14.03.09 12:30

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
“I had a spin and I stalled in the stage and lost about five seconds. I didn’t take any risks, but it is quite a fight out there.”

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
“The stage was a challenge, but I am not able to find Sébastien’s level at the moment.”

    Car 2 SORDO/MARTI
“I lost time in the stage when I stalled but I am quite happy.”

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTIILA
“It has been a big disaster. On the last stage I had to run for about one kilometre to get some spectators to help me put the car back on the road. We have lost a lot of points and this is a big disaster for our challenge for the Manufacturers’ Championship.”

    Car 16 SOLBERG/MENKERUD
Arrived at the stage finish with a front right-hand puncture.

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
“It feels good today. We have shown a big improvement on yesterday and I am happy.”

    Car 7 NOVIKOV/MOSCATT
“I will try to push this afternoon and catch Matthew Wilson.”

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
Arrived at the stage finish with the car completely covered in mud. The wipers had failed to work and Rautenbach opened his door to reveal his helmet and overalls covered in mud.

    Car 9 VILLAGRA/PEREZ-COMPANC
    “It was a difficult stage.”

    Car 11 SOLBERG/MILLS
“It could have been better, but we will let the Citroens have their own battle at the top and I will continue to look at my times.”

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
The car sported a large dent in the roof. “The windscreen wipers stopped working and it caused me to roll.”

    Car 137 SAUVAN/GORCZYCA
Off in SS8, but there were no spectators around to push his car on to the stage. He plans to return on Sunday.

    Car 159 THOMAS/PREVOT
Retired from the leg on the road section after SS8 with electrical/fuel-pump-related problems. He does not think that he will restart under SupeRally on Sunday.

    Service flash 4 - 14.03.09 15:00

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
“This morning was a wake-up.” When asked how bad the mud was, “We drove for about 3 kilometres in 1st gear.” Changed suspension, brake pads and bumpers and ‘de-mudded’ the car.

    Car 2 SORDO/MARTI
Stalled the engine near the end of SS9 and had to reverse to get going again. Changed the suspension all round.

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
“It was nothing unexpected. In Cyprus, when it’s wet you know it’s mud with a capital M.” Routine service plus replaced the gear sensor, rear bumper corners, front bumper unit, engine fan and sumpguard.

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTILA
When he went off in SS8, half the car was still on the racing line and two wheels were in the air. Jari-Matti had spotted spectators near the bridge, so he ran back and got them to help. Routine service plus changed front bumper unit, front wing, clutch and engine fan.

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
    Routine service

    Car 6 H SOLBERG/MENKERUD
“The engine is not pulling well. The beast isn’t there. Is it a casualty from yesterday?” Routine service plus changed suspension settings.

    Car 7 NOVIKOV/MOSCATT
“We had a bad morning. I had a puncture in SS7 when the tyre came off the rim. Then in SS8 we lost time when we touched the bridge and stalled the engine. And we stalled again later. Front suspension and rear differential changed.

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
Co-driver Barritt, commenting on the non-working windscreen wipers, “It’s difficult to find the switch!” Changed rear bumper, brake discs and suspension all round.

    Car 9 VILLAGRA/PEREZ COMPANC
“We had a good morning but stalled the engine in SS8 and lost a bit of time.” Routine service

    Car 11 P SOLBERG/MILLS
“We had a good run this morning.” Has some overheating issues.

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
When asked about the non-functional windscreen wipers, he said it was because there was no water left in the bottle. He rolled twice but his main concern is the loss of time. Service crew fixed car by panel beating and taping.

    Car 14 AL QASSIMI/ORR
“It’s difficult to get a good feeling. In SS8 the problem was to know how slowly I should have been driving.” The handbrake failed in SS9, where there are many tight corners. There is an is overheating problem too. Replaced the bumper unit, engine fan and wiper blades.

    Car 31 BURKART/KOELBACH
“We were so unlucky on Day 1 but the good thing is that the car is in one piece and we are in a good position.”

    Car 38 PROKOP/TOMANEK
“I am trying to go fast but there’s no traction. I hope it will be better this afternoon. I didn’t expect Kosciuszko to push this morning”

    Car 133 ARAI/MACNEALL
In SS8 the suspension overheated and the shock absorbers went soft, so “Am not happy.”

    Stage flash 11 - 14.03.09 18:20

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
Spun and stalled the engine 1 kilometre before the finish. Has front left body damage, which he blames on the damaged brakes.

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
“Finally I have learnt how to drive. This stage went very well.”

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTILA
Has noticeable wear on the left front tyre. “I am satisfied with this afternoon’s run, despite a spin.”

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
“I lost two seconds from the last split and I don’t know why.”

    Car 6 H SOLBERG/MENKERUD
“Now the car is fixed I had to give it a good test and this stage is a Solberg one-two.”

    Car 7 NOVIKOV/MOSCATT
Brake ducting was seen hanging down under the car.

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
“I am trying hard and was very lucky not to go off on a first gear left bend.”

    Car 9 VILLAGRA/PEREZ COMPANC
Lost most of the front trim after a nose-down landing. “The suspension is okay though.” The rear trim is hanging off too.

    Car 11 P SOLBERG/MILLS
“It suits the car now it’s dry. Sebastién told me it’s much better with mechanical diffs and I’ve got to believe him. I came here to enjoy myself and the feeling is back.”

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
Spun in the stage. ”That was a good stage. This afternoon was better than this morning for me.”

    Car 14 AL QASSIMI/ORR
“The handbrake failed again and I can’t keep the rhythm. I hope that tomorrow is a dry day to make things more exciting.”

    Car 31 BURKART/KOELBACH
“I can only beat myself with stupid mistakes. Tomorrow will be a careful day for a good points score.

    Car 32 KOSCIUSZKO/SZCZPANIAK
“I lost traction when it rained.”

    Car 133 ARAI/MACNEALL
“The car is very sideways.” Thinks it could be the suspension and that the changed settings were not the answer.

    Day 3:
    Stage flash 12 - 15.03.09 10:40

31 of the original 32 cars restarted on Sunday morning, with three cars starting under SupeRally (cars 135, 136 and 137). Nicos Thomas (car 159) did not restart.

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
“I drove like I did! It was muddy. It was hard to be more confident, but the next stage is very long and difficult. We will see.”

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
“I am pleased with that time. It was damp and muddy. There is a long stage to go and I hope to keep in the same rhythm.”

    Car 2 SORDO/MARTI
There was a lot of mud on the stage and I took it steady.”

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTIILA
“The suspension feels good. It was very muddy in some places, but I am pleased with the car.”

    Car 16 SOLBERG/MENKERUD
“It was okay. We had a few problems in the deep water splash and the mud.”

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
“I hope that we have done enough. It is difficult in places and I lost some time cleaning the windscreen.”

    Car 7 NOVIKOV/MOSCATT
Rolled in SS12 and retired from the event.

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
Stalled and lost between five and 10 seconds. “The new clutch feels strange and the hand brake is not working as I would like.”

    Car 9 VILLAGRA/PEREZ-COMPANC
Rear bumper hanging off at stage finish.

    Car 11 SOLBERG/MILLS
“I want the podium so badly. I was not happy in there. There was water in my foot well and we stalled and I selected the wrong gear. I lost about seven seconds at the junction.”

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
“I tried to push hard, but I stalled after two kilometres and lost about six seconds.”

    Car 14 AL-QASSIMI/ORR
“We are still having problems. If the problem with the hand brake persists we will not be able to do anything.”

    Car 32 KOSCIUSZKO/SZCZEPANIAK
Lost power steering and is concerned about tackling the next stage with no power steering.

    Car 38 PROKOP/TOMANEK
“I drove safely. We will see what happens, but Michael is pushing.”

    Car 133 ARAI/MACNEALL
“We aimed to push hard today, but he have a problem with a shaft and I am afraid of spinning.”

    Service flash 6 - 15.03.09 11:55

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
“I still need to push and stay focused because of the very changeable surfaces we are encountering.” Routine service only.

    Car 2 SORDO/MARTI
“I must try in the next stage, as Petter is very close – but I didn’t know he had a problem.” Routine service only

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
“I don’t think I can catch Sebastien, so I’ll try to keep the car on the road. I’ve heard that it is raining in the next stage (SS13) and there is running water.” The brakes were bled at service.

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTILA
”The grip levels in the last stage have changed after the overnight rain.” Routine service only.

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
On the road section between SS12 and Remote Service, the driver’s window dropped and Matthew had to take the trim off to shove it back. “There was no water in the washer bottle in the last stage; it was muddy and I couldn’t see. It’s not my favourite stage – it’s where I went off in 2006. It took us an hour to recce the next one it because it’s corner after corner but I like it.” Routine service only

    Car 6 H SOLBERG/MENKERUD
“It’s a drive for Manufacturers’ points for me today.” The back end was dragging because of the weight of the mud, so the rear suspension has been raised.

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
“After I saw Novikov (Car 7) off, I cruised to the finish because the points are important.” Co-driver Barritt, “It was very muddy in SS12 and we expect mud at the start of the next one but then it gets better.”

    Car 9 VILLAGRA/PEREZ COMPANC
“The last stage was difficult because the grip levels change suddenly and it affects your confidence.” Routine service

    Car 11 P SOLBERG/MILLS
Encountered a gearbox down-shift problem in the last stage and the car was sometimes in 4th when it should have been in 1st. Petter said, “I hope to be able to fix it here because this is my dream – the podium and I shall really push in the next stage.” There was not enough time to fix it at service but Petter’s mechanics said that he could change gear manually (the old fashioned way). The suspension settings were adjusted at service.

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
“I stalled on a slow corner in the last stage but everything’s okay.” Routine service

    Car 14 AL QASSIMI/ORR
In the last stage my split times were up and it was great. Then the handbrake problem re-occurred and the times dropped. This problem also affects the launch control as it’s a sensor problem but we can’t fix it.

    Car 31 BURKART/KOELBACH
    Routine service

    Car 32 KOSCIUSZKO/SZCZPANIAK
    Routine service

    Car 38 PROKOP/TOMANEK
Has broken a rear control bar so the back of the car is drifting.

    Car 133 ARAI/MACNEALL
Has a broken front left driveshaft.

    Stage flash 13 - 15.03.09 12:45

    Car 1 LOEB/ELENA
“It was difficult to stay on the road but I’m okay.”

    Car 2 SORDO/MARTI
“Petter was faster because of the road conditions.”

    Car 3 HIRVONEN/LEHTINEN
Said he now felt under pressure but gave no reason. Said, “I was slow in places.”

    Car 4 LATVALA/ANTTILA
“It was not too bad but I was nearly sideways once.”

    Car 5 WILSON/MARTIN
“I stalled in the middle of the stage and feel I have dropped speed.”

    Car 6 H SOLBERG/MENKERUD
“It was very muddy in places in there.”

    Car 8 RAUTENBACH/BARRITT
“I have a handbrake problem and nearly went off in places.” Said he was disappointed with his position.

    Car 9 VILLAGRA/PEREZ COMPANC
Has damaged front right wing and the rear valance is hanging off.

    Car 11 P SOLBERG/MILLS
Came out of the stage with damage to the left rear of the car. When asked how he felt after having moved up to 3rd, he said, “It’s unbelievable – but there’s still 11 kilometres to go.”

    Car 12 OGIER/INGRASSIA
Said he is trying to fend Wilson off.

    Car 14 AL QASSIMI/ORR
“It’s a monster, very challenging but I’ll be back.”

    Car 144 AL-ATTIYAH/BERNACCINI
The engine was overheating because of the mud in the radiator.

    Car 146 SANDELL/AXELSSON
“I really, really pushed and desperately want this win.” (He took the PWRC lead from Araujo in this stage.)

    Car 147 ARAUJO/MIGUEL
Had a gearbox problem in the stage. Said he was disappointed to lose his lead but will continue.

Congratulations to Sebastien Loeb on his 50th WRC Win
    ©Rally-Live

The final stage of the Cyprus Rally's 2009 edition brought amazing results for many World Rally Championship drivers in what was an exciting finish to this year's third round of the season.

Sebastien Loeb signed his 50th World Rally Championship victory on Sunday, and although his lead was comfortable, the five-time champion was relieved to reach the finish line and enjoy the milestone.

"It's incredible!" he exclaimed. "I remember when I beat the records of Carlos (Sainz) and then Colin (McRae). It wasn't so long ago, and now we're on 50."

"50 is really a big number," he continued, quickly and confidently adding that he fully intends to add more to his victory list: "The next one is 51," he grinned.
