Had the first Mississippi region event for 09' on Sat(Sunday was cancelled due to SNOW , on March 1st). Basically my first points event in my STX WRX with all planned mods completed!
Saturday was raining and misting almost all day, the rain was one struggle, as it was my 2nd rainy event in almost three years. Also, I struggled to keep the car straight and make a clean time for driver(greed) and car issues(oversteer). Luckily it dried out for the second set of runs and i managed to pull the FTD on my only clean run of the day(all of my afternoon runs would have done it, just not clean)!!
I basically changed nothing for the rain/mist and felt a lack of braking power, push in sweepers and then just plain slipperyness. Does anyone have any rain experience or guidance for rain setups? For next time, I'm thinking i should back out on about 1/2 the camber(2.8* normally) and possibly less toe out up front(about 1/16" out per side). Also i can soften my shock dampening a bit more and disconnect the sways if its forcast to rain the whole event. Any other guidance or warnings against what i'm thinking???
The car was an oversteering beast in most conditions and worst for mid-high speed corners from mid corner to corner exit. So, Sat night i anticipated a dry event and i replaced my solid rubber rear endlinks with spherical ones in an attempt to gain some precision and articulation, since the rear bar's already on full soft. I also dropped the rear rideheight
1/2" to get some weight back there, lower the CG and add droop travel to my short-stroked advance design monotube shocks.
Hopefully i'll be able to find a parking lot or tarmac somehwere to see how much if any I improved on the oversteer and hopefully see that I didn't hurt anything that was working(aka. turn in, sweepers, transitions).
Hope to see folks at Dixie(work permitting)!
