Just to throw out some numbers on gearing... the 235/40 has an OD of 23.4", 23.7" for the 245/40. That's a difference in radius/lever of 0.15", almost 5/32 of an inch, so it's about the same difference in OD as a fully treaded tire and one shaved to 5/32.

Agreed, the difference IMO is pretty negligible. I even think the difference in width (~0.25) is pretty negligible as well.

I had the same thought, but a 245/35/17 should have an OD of about 23.8". This *might* be a touch to short of a tire. You would lose about 3 mph from the top of second.

I would definitely like to try one though.

They should fit fine. I did a little test today at a local event and I added 5mm spacers to the rear of the car to simulate about where the 245 tires would be. Now, granted the diameter is a bit taller, but I didn't have any problems with rubbing.

I didn't check TireRack for the 235/40, they had 11. I have 4 currently on their way. *whew*

So, it looks like Dunlop made up my mind for me on the 235 vs. 245 debate.
