5spd vs. auto

what would the times look like ?

0-60- boring

1/8 mile- no clue but more fun than an auto
1/4 mile- ditto to the 1/8th

IMO roadcourses are far more entertaining than striaght lines

sorry i couldnt resist but my guess would be that if you were to take an average of 3 or so runs the auto would be quicker... more consistent launches and runs. im pretty sure you can launch the autos pretty hard so the auto might run pretty close to the manual. but you know my opinoin of autos... i dont think i would really want to launch a manual too terribly hard though so if i were driving... preferably not my wrx... id prolly be quicker in the auto simply because im a puss when i launch my car. i wasnt meaning to be an @$$ it was more of a joke.

i'd really love to see an auto stock wrx run anywhere from 14.1-14.3 range stock for the 02-05 bodies, and don't tell me its impossible because mine and my brothers did that stock.

As far as the 06/07's, manual ones have gotten into high 13's, lets see an auto get close to that.


and for the 08 mazdas, arghh i mean wrx's, who cares they are crap anyway.

well i think that if i was driving someone elses 5 speed and they didnt mind metal chunks for a tranny when i gave it back to them then id be quicker in the 5 speed probably a lot quicker, couple tenths. but i know the in the auto id be able to put down 3 times within a fun hundreths of each other which i know for a fact i wouldnt be able to do that in a 5 speed. if you measured quickest time against quickest time the 5 speed would prolly walk away with it. but avg vs. avg prolly the auto. the times would fairly close though within a few tenths.

if you know how to drive a car, its not gonna go glass on you and break. Look my 03 wrx saw 7-8 drag strip visits, i lost count but i went a lot. It didn't have that much power it was only a stage 2 but i was cutting 1.8's all day long and i had it for only like 30k miles but tranny was fine. Now my 05 sti i've been to the track once and i probably baby it a lot more. I'm just saying, its fact, manual is much faster then an auto, forget the breaking factor, you don't have to break it or do 1.8's or anything else. Plus IMO around a track, your much better off with a manual you have more control, either way manual wins.

Don't forget that it needs the Hurst T handle shifter too. Otherwise it'll just be slow.....

Oh, and a Dana rear end would be nice too.

You mean a ford 9in rear end
I know some newer cars have the auto equipped model being faster 0-60 and 1/4, like the 06 GTO (referring to the GTO because I worked at a pontiac dealer for 3 years) Im not sure on the numbers but the auto was a 10th quicker to 60 and in the 1/4, But the 6MT is soo damn fun to drive

no competion 5 speed every lap, everytime, every track. suck boxes, i mean slush boxes pretty much blow on a road course. and again fun comes into the equation- auto's just arent that fun to drive..... AUTO = FTL

I'm not sure if an Auto has ever run faster than a 14.232 but that is my fastest time with an ok launch with a 5spd 02wrx, and stock power levels, unless you call my K&N oil filter and air filter power upgrades.
