Cool '08 Grp N Rally Subaru

Looks like the Impreza WRX Concept unveiled by Subaru at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show wasn't far off from the real thing. Today Subaru unveiled the actual car it will be offering up to the rally gods, and it is indeed based on the production WRX STI that was just unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show this week. Designed for Group N competition, the rally car of course features a flat 2.0L four-cylinder pumping out 304 HP and 311 ft-lbs. of torque that will tear up terra firma through all four wheels. The car still needs approval by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to race, but Subaru expects it to be approved by January 1st, 2008.

I take it no one else thinks it just looks like Subaru stole a Mazda3 and put a hood scoop on it, painted it WRB, and put Scooby logos on it?

No, its really that everyone has said it so many times that it doesn't really need to be said.

It would look a whole lot better if Petter and Phil were on top of it shaking champagne bottles!

Nice find. Hopefully this will put Subaru back into the competition. I find it a bit empty to view rally results without Subaru being represented...and not with a DNF or "if ________ hadn't broke, we would be in the mix" statements. It is obvious to me that they have had to overdrive the current car in order to compensate for it's comparatively larger size and older platform. At least I hope that is the case and Peter hasn't lost his edge. Hopefully we will soon find out

    Subaru WRC car FTW!!!
