This is a discussion on The official what I'm doing/changing for the 08 season thread within the Motorsports Talk forums, part of the Community - Meet other Enthusiasts category; someone posted on the scca forums Dunlop in 235/40/17 discontinued- not certain that is true, but certainly doesn't look promising...

They specifically looked for a 235/40/17, but I also looking into 225/45/17 & 245/40/17 for other people from my local tire guy and he couldn't get those either.
One of my tire sources did actually tell me they were discontinued.
Who the **** releases a tire and then doesn't sell it???![]()

the MX makes a pretty good track day tire and some guys have had some success in the past w/ them shaved autoxing- sidewalls are a little soft compared to others
Azenis maybe
"Simplify and add lightness." - Colin Chapman
The Azenis seem to work better with lighter cars...
I'm still a fan of the Hankook RS-2 it has a stiffer sidewall compared to the MX, from my own comparison of the two. Someone could prove me wrong with hard data.
113 a piece
BUT you can find Advans for around 600 or so every once and a while.
What about the Nitto NT-1? or is that considered an R Comp?

I guess I am just going to pick up some 235-40-17 RE01R's
Dunlop = :diaf:
I'm on unshaved Ecsta MX's. They're a pretty nice tire for the price, but I don't know anyone who is really competitive on them in autox, myself included. My biggest complaint is that they love heat and perform best when warm... except that I have a hard time getting them warm enough in a typical autox run. I'm looking forward to giving them a try on the track this summer, though.
