Subaru World Rally Team's Petter Solberg is to attend the Frankfurt Motor Show on Tuesday, 11 September for the public launch of the "concept version" 2008 Subaru Impreza WRC.
Team Managing Director Richard Taylor explained that work on the replacement car is well advanced. "The first bodyshells are nearing completion, and testing of the first prototypes is scheduled in November," Taylor said.
No decision has yet been taken as to which will be the FIA World Rally Championship event where the car will make its debut.
"The decision will be based on the performance of the current '07 model, and whether required performance and reliability has been achieved from the new model."
Apart from confirming that the new car will feature the company's traditional boxer layout engine, no technical details have been released. Taylor however added: "This will be the most fundamental redesign of the Impreza WRC since it first run in the 1997 Monte Carlo."
