First time drifting my 2004 Subaru WRX

Sil80Head and I were bored on this Saturday afternoon and his 240 was stuck in the garage for some more work and I had my 2004 WRX ready and prepped (even though stock) for the upcoming DRIFT event.

I told Sil80Head that I wanted to try to see if I can drift in my brand new Subaru, so he brought his Digital Camera which takes video as well and shot the following footage of my FIRST time trying to drift.

dry pavement you need mad speed and a lot of weight transfer to drift a stock WRX...... i did it once, but didnt maintain the drift because the parking lot was too small..... but is possible... but need practice though....

I thought the concept to drifting is keeping momentum and speed along with the accuracy of keeping it on the track.

You need quite a bit of HP for a subaru on dry pavement to keep a drift going... instead of getting 50% through it and having the power seriously drop off.

Oh, one more thing... take this off the street.

What tires are you using? The stock RE-92s? I don't know if mine would grip back up at the end like yours did.

im using the stock RE-92's, and just from throttle play, when i let go of the throttle it gained grip.... and when i gave mroe throttle, of course, it began to slide a little more.

so when i saw myself drifting into the exit, i let off teh gas a bit and it got grip and then i gave it a little more to keep going and exit.....

nothign fancy or spectacular for my first time trying, but I am pleased

Dude, dont get to excited, what you experienced is know as OVERSTEER, not drifting.

not to be sarcastic.... but i i see we have many PROFESSIONALS here......

i did not say i was an expert, or say i was the best drifter or I know how drift perfectly or say I was right or am right..

all i am doing is writing my experience from my own drift....
call it oversteer, slding or whatever you want..... all im doing is explaining my video..

comment is still welcome, thanx though

Where in NJ are you Clark?

We have a large WRX contingency in South Jersey.
