Geez, so your into a tranny 6 grand huh? Thats almost ridiculous from my point of view, you say that your old transmission broke because you put a stage one clutch in it. Was it just to much for the transmission to handle or what happend? So i guess my dreams of putting in a new transmission is just gone out the window..
Look number one take off the BOV...... I don't care what you say you don't need it. It just makes noise. As for the trans. You can do alot...... Ive learned alot only by reading. You have to pick through the ****..... The cheapest way to START is to change you gear oil........ Something like redline would work. I use a BMG product that i thought would work it didnt. Its kinda normal for the syncro to grind you have to just let your shift be smooth (sometimes not easy) and slow. Don't force the gear, make sure the clutch is all the way in. This is only a bandaide but it works for somepeople. The next is what i did Sti ra gear swap. I bought my trans from a guy in cali that was doing a Sti 6 converstion. You can sit here and throw out horsepower and what a trans can take but its really depends on the driver. When my trans broke i was at cobbs 2.5 I launched it every know and then. Not much but enough. It lasted 7*k but i blame my trans breaking on not only my driving but the fact that i put in a stage one clutch. The sti 6 speed is about 5 to 6 grand depending who puts it in and where you can get the parts. Not sure what kinda condition your stock trans is or how much more modifying you want to do all realy depends on the trans path you want to take. I like the Ra gear set mine was frozen and polish to get an inperfection out of it. they say that makes it stronger. You can go ppg they are 1 grand a gear 1-4 = 4 grand thats alot just for gears then you need everything. pluse for odds and ends another 1k not including cost of putting it in. P.s the end you need anything else give me a pm
Hey man whats up, I got some questions for ya, you seem to have some extensive knowledege about these cars i was wondering if you could help me make a decision. So like a lot of other people im having the 1st and 4th grind. Ive been reading these forums religiously for the past few days trying to figure out the most costly and effiecient way to solve the problem. My question is, what is the real solution? Ive heard people swear by neo synthetic gear oil, as others swear that it will deterorate your synchro's. Ive heard people say the only real way to solve the problem is to drop an STI 6 speed gearbox in, but along with it you'll have to upgrade a lot of drivetrain components, some people say RA is the way to go, but after reading a horror story about that im not sure? PPG sounds good to me but how much does this all cost? I own a 2002 WRX, its got 64k miles, B.O.V, intake, and cat back exhaust, so its pretty stock still. Im looking for a real solution to the problem while trying to spend somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 grand installed. So can you help me decide what to do or is all of this just personal opinion? Im not looking at doing to much more to engine upgrades, maybe a lightwieght flywheel, a stage 2 clutch, and a boost control down the road. My overall goal is to have good performance, but unsurpassed reliability and drivability. Thanks for your time.
