As a birthday present to myself, I decided to get out of the city for a night with some friends a couple of weeks ago. We picked up the App. Trail in Tennessee, near Roan Mountain (about 6000 ft.), and went in a few miles to a shelter. It wasn't much of a trip, but it was great to get out for a while.
The pics are nothing special; I didn't bring my Nikon, just my more compact Sony DSC-V1. It was good fun for 2 of us; my buddy Kellar was on the trip (the big guy in the pics), and he and I have done hundreds of miles of trail together. The other fellow was a coworker who wanted to try out backpacking. He had convinced me that he was in shape for it. We found out otherwise. A few miles of mountain nearly killed him, and he wasn't happy.
It was humorous for me, because he's always maintained that he's more athletic than me since he's 10 years younger, and wrestled in high school. I don't think that I'll have to hear about that anymore.
