If you think you are really gonna get into it, a DSLR is the way to go. Brand and model is all user preference. You'll also want to source a copy of photoshop and photomatrix for doing HDR's.
If you aren't sure you'll get that into it, don't wanna break the bank, but want a great all around camera that takes awesome point and shoot pics but still allows you to tweak settings, its hard to beat one of these.
I had the FZ5 and absolutely loved it. Still have it, but just stepped up to a DSLR. (I took like 10,000 pics with my FZ5)
A lot of the awesome shots in this thread are done with literally thousands of dollars of equipment. Guys like Verdugo, coolbeans, bigsur, grayson, (myself though I'm still a newb and in no way take as good of pics) etc. have big dollars in cameras, lenses, photo processing software, and a good graphics card.
so my new drive to and from work includes a nice little banked gravel section....
I didnt take this pic but my cousin did & sent it to me. Ever heard of this stuff? It takes care of swamp azz.
I'm bored tonight, so I went through some of my photos from Subiefest2. I thought this one looked cool.
