Nags Head - our last day. The reason the entire thing is empty is it was so windy it felt like a sandblaster. We found a little eddy to hang out in behind the hotel deck, but no one else could tolerate it. I had a new boogie board to try out, however they closed the water to swimming too. Hence the red flag standing proud out there. The waves were the biggest I have seen here.
The Pelicans were coming up the entire length then catching the lift off of our hotel which sticks out much further than anything else. That pic is from our 7th floor balcony, same spot as the panorama.

That is awesome with the black highlights. It is hard to get enough light to increase your f-stop enough to get really good depth of field on the close-ups. I just keep mine on aperture priority and go as high as I can usually, but lately I've been carrying a cheap light small tripod. It is the only thing that works in the shade like that Laccaria pic I just posted, and even helps with better light like the others as I want to be f11 at the very least and prefer f16 or better.

Over f11 is going to degrade your IQ because you're only getting light through a tiny hole. I usually just use the flashlight on my cell phone.. it isn't real bright, but it's even and I usually have it with me. If I'm trying to get more DOF and I don't have enough light I'll usually just up the ISO. Depending on the high ISO performance of your sensor you can usually achieve the desired combination that way without getting too noisy.

Ahh.. yea. I have a "10x marco effect" filter I use sometimes (not for this shot).. but even at f22 the DOF is still really shallow and the IQ suffers a lot.
