I almost always shoot in aperture priority mode, so it will only fire as fast as the exposure length needed for that particular shot. That means at night I still require a tripod.. because shots like this one will take upwards of 30 second exposures on the bright side of the spectrum.

That's the way to do it, except I can stay in aperture priority mode.. My ISO is always manually set on 200 unless I see fit to change it, and honestly, I don't even bother to take the WB off of auto because my camera meters light so well it's always consistent in back to back exposures. The nice thing is that I can set it to take multiple continuous brackets from -3ev to +3ev. It'll take up to 5 exposures if you want, how ever far apart ev wise that you want, and you can set it to vary the exposure by whatever means you select. Of course I vary by shutter speed.
