I actually wish that car was setup for RWD to begin with. 29xxlbs, rwd and a car that takes decently to a turbo setup. People are chomping at the bit for a car like that which is affordable. People were very excited about the Genesis, but I don't think it made as big of a splash as it needed to.

The Genesis Coupe is pretty amazing. I think that the price point is as much of a problem as a benefit though. The reason i say this is, at about a $20k price point, it's nice and affordable for say, someone who's just out of college, but still isn't making much money. Thus, when they buy the car, they get it but then the mods they put into it are pretty cheap and unreliable. Combine that with a relatively sparse engine management/tuning environment and the car just doesn't become very popular (much like the SRT-4 in this respect). On the other hand, people who are well into their careers and can afford a $20k-ish car no problem AND have money to spend on good mods, often don't want to "bring themselves down" to buying a $20k-ish car when they can say buy a $30k-ish car instead (STI/Evo/Z people). Stuck in the middle of all this of course are the WRX owners...but of course most of them are just going to stick with the WRX because of its history, reliability, and potential, thus they don't really want to take a risk and lose money.

That's just how I see it from a vendor point of view...I tried extremely hard to break into the Genesis Coupe market but this is exactly what I faced.

Good 2 pennies. I couldn't agree more. The tC is a great little car. My sister has a 2009. Its a fun car to drive and has a decent amount of pep from that little 4 banger. Solid feel and decent handling. Make it into RWD and you have a solid platform for something really performance oriented. We haven't seen something offered like that since what...mid 90s with the 240?

Here's to hoping that the Subaru/Toyota FT-86 doesn't end up like a Toyota Solara like the rumors have been saying.

I really don't have any faith in toyota bringing something peppy or really that fun around.

As for the status of the Genesis I agree 100% that a decent EMS would make that car go far. . Aftermarket or whatever. People can swallow a crappy motor and replace it, but EMS in the end for those in the emissions belt(s) is a huge hurdle.

The return of the 240sx was supposed to be something along those lines but Nissan must be second guessing the production of it.

Too bad all the concepts are butt ugly.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking...they have potential with that. Toyota for all their history of awesome and reliable fun cars (ex: Supra, AE86, MR2, etc)...have really be lacking in anything performance oriented. For granted the make a killing in the family transport demographic, but it'd be nice to see the FT-86 come to life like all the earlier hype.

I am however...not familiar with the rumors. What gives?

Very interesting...hopefully if they are "detuned" then obviously the aftermarket can work with it...as long as it doesn't hit the wall like with the Genesis having poor support

Ninja PS: For some reason, a lot of threads won't let me Multi-quote, so I have to post multiple times in a row. Not trying to post-wh0re it up

Well, if it still has some kind of turbo Subaru EJ25 motor in it, I don't believe aftermarket support will be too much of a problem. If it doesn't though...
