    what are you shooting with, if I may ask? Also, reveal shutter speeds, f stop. I want all of it (can you tell i'm taking a photo class now?)

    I am shooting with a nikon d50 and a POS $150 18-55 kit lense.

    Badass...try using a smaller aperture like you did in the 2nd one...that'll help ensure sharpness throughout the focal range. I normally do my night shots at about f/11.
