Cheaper than what? Canon? Tamron makes excellent lenses with 6-7 year warranties and sharpness comparable to Canon glass. Some may suggest Sigma, but, in my experience, you get what you pay for. I've got a couple of Sigma paper wieghts at the house.

A used Canon lens is generally a better buy than the aftermarket glass, in the long run.

    Peace,

For any kind of quality, you're looking at spending at least 5 hundy which could get you a Tokina 12-24 or a Sigma 10-22 which are reputed to be very decent lenses.

How wide are you looking? I just got a Tokina 19-35 for under $200. But I'm strictly amateur.

Remember that on an APS-C sensor that 19mm is effectively 30mm...

Yeah I know it. There's more lens buying in my future. Still, the tokina's got more more width than my existing 35-105 and 70-300.
