Thanks This is my first Turbo subaru, but spent enough time helping my friends out with their WRX's and Legacy GT's in the past that I know some basic things, but always willing to learn more

Are you part of Form and Function? I'm a part of the group Garden State Subies that meets at the Rockaway BWW monthly and then a few things every now and then too.

Brentuning has been able to get 270whp with just an AP and tune alone, that's about the threshold of what a tune on otherwise a 100% stock car. With the TGV and EGR deletes it breathes more air and power in to the system. We had it tuned initially for 283 but both me and mike didn't like how lean it ran so he re-tuned me for free and 270 is a pretty solid tune for this and still runs great for daily driving purposes. I can still maintain 28-29 mpg mixed driving on it (I don't do pulls or get on it often when i'm just daily driving) peak boost is set for 18 PSI and I can maintain that until about 6500 RPM in 3rd and 4th gear. Stock tune the peak boost is all over the place (anywhere between 17-23psi) and you hit it at low RPM's. Acceleration stock tends to fall off around 4500 RPM this made a huge difference.

I also upgraded the fuel pump to a DW300 I forgot to add that to the list.

I can attest that TGV deletes make a pretty huge difference on these FA20 motors. They were my first mod and I was tuned for just those alone, no other mods. The difference in torque was staggering. The reason I went with TGV deletes first was because they're obviously cheap, easy to install, and at the time TIC was claiming +40lb/ft and 15hp on a standard (non-agressive) tune.

As long as your tuner knows what he's doing. Nothing. JDM cars don't even use them. Some people have noticed a rough idle, but I never experienced this. From what I've read is that the TGVs are only closed during cold starts anyways. However, the actuator bolt takes up about 30% of the intake inlet ports which is a pretty massive restriction.

+1, you don't NEED a tune for TGV (you can clear code with the AP) but it makes it much easier if you do. When I did my EGR shortly after that (which was a PITA) I already had my tune scheduled so my tuner sent me a base map and made adjustments so i didn't get codes so that I could drive it around for the 5 days between when I installed and when I went up to EFI logics for my protune.

Oh interesting, they are pretty affordable mod, 95 bucks up to 150 and seem to give huge gains. Thanks for the info.
