How exactly does that radar detector thing work and how much was it?
The radar detector is something I've had for about 2 years now. The model I have can be picked up for about $300 (actually ~$275 on Amazon right now), and in my opinion is a worthy investment. I used to be a big speeder back in the day. I've changed my driving habits since then, but I do like to stretch the cars legs from time to time. I mean come on, who wouldn't. Because of this, I wanted an extra pair of "eyes" on the road. Basically, the detector picks up signals given off by police radar and laser guns. I have a lot of hills around where I live, but some folks out west with better conditions have been warned of police radar presence upwards of 2 miles. For me I usually get a half mile warning and I almost always hear the detector before I see the police cruiser. It's an extra layer of defense if you happen to be speeding.

When used with common sense, they can come in handy. Don't go out and buy one and expect to go 80+ everywhere. You'll be screwed in no time at all. However, if you find yourself coasting above the posted speed limit from time to time, this little guy can be a nice reminder to take things down a notch. I have been saved many times and it has definitely paid for itself when you think of tickets and insurance premium hikes. It only takes one or two "saves" for it to be paid off. The most notable example was when I was going about 85 on the highway in my previous vehicle. I had a rabbit (someone ahead of me speeding as well) about 1/4 mile ahead of me. We're cresting a hill and my radar detector goes off. I slow down, he doesn't. The state trooper that was sitting in the median lit him up like a Christmas tree. Now that's not to say I wasn't lucky, because the cop surely could have nailed me too, but I had that little extra warning. The car in front of me didn't.

Since I've had the detector I haven't been pulled over for speeding, and I would say that's an accomplishment with this car. Who knows, maybe I'm just a little more responsible now. If you're looking for a product recommendation, you can't go wrong with the Escort Passport 8500 X50. Buy it.

I was searching high and low for a pic of an 11 with these on, but couldn't find them anywhere. I decided to take the plunge and see for myself. I'm happy they turned out okay.

I was actually pretty impressed with drag wheels, they have some great looking wheels for cheap and if you compare them to rota they look damn identical.

I've had no detector and haven't been pulled in a hybrid bugeye...I do, however, run a cloaking device. Handy, that.

Today was a busy day. I finally got my ABS/VDC/Hill Assist issue fixed as well as the annoying rear deck rattle. I had to drive all the way to NH to get it taken care of, but it was worth the drive. Updates in the threads below if anyone is interested:

I also got my Kartboy Short Shifter and bushings installed while I was at the dealer. All I can say is wow. The difference is night and day! I wish the car came like this from the factory. Everything feels a lot tighter. Shifting between gears is smoother. I like the mechanical feel as opposed to the rubber bushings. I definitely feel more "engaged" (for lack of a better term) when driving.

Last but not least, I received a little present today from Nameless Performance. Will get this installed soon and then I'm done modding for a while. It's Christmas time and my wallet is starting to hurt.

Yesterday marks 1 year since I've had the car. I still look forward to my 20 mile commute every day and will use just about any excuse to drive it. I've got 17,500 miles on the clock and I'm enjoying every mile. I was finally able to play around in some decent snow this past weekend and I had a lot of fun doing it. The car inspires such confidence in terrible conditions. I can't believe how capable it is in the slick stuff. This is by far the best bang for the buck car I've had the pleasure of driving and it continues to deliver smiles all year round.

Not much for updates. I did hit the 20,000 mile mark today on my way home. She's no longer a baby! I did end up taking my snow tires off a full month earlier than normal. With temps in the 60-70's it kind of had to happen. I snapped this right after I finished:

Decided to give the winter wheels a new look today. 4 cans of Plastidip and a few beers later I came up with this:

    likewise on the look-out.

I definitely love it already! Already got my EDR9s with blizzaks prepped for the winter... But who knows, we might only get 3 worthwhile snowfalls like last year. Screwed my skiing season completely.

Yea I hated that. Was so pumped for my winter setup and never really need it last year. I'm not much of a skier but I'm hoping we get hammered this year with snow.

Nice work, DJ. I think I'm on the verge of getting the same color hatchback.

Since this thread is highjacked by western Mass members...you guys happen to know any good shops in the area for performance modifications? I live in Belchertown myself and work up in Amherst.

Thanks buddy. I'm in a similar boat, only shops I've heard of (lazy searching) are out near Worcester/Boston. Would be nice to have one in Springfield or Amherst/Hadley.

By the way...I love the photo of your car with snow on it. Something about it just looks natural to me!
