Photos from my trip to France, April 16th - May 1st

Since I've had so many people from here ask me about my trip, I wanted to share some photos with everyone!

My father had just retired in March and it was his birthday on April 30th, so under the recommendation of one of our old family friends, I decided to surprise my parents with this trip as a gift. The entire trip was coordinated through Grand Circle Tours and while they're more catered toward people who are already retired (I was by far the youngest person on the trip), I'm really glad we decide to go with them. We had a full itinerary and our tour guide was very knowledgeable...I actually learned much more about France than I had through my 6 years of taking French through middle and high school! I digress though...on with the photos.

For the trip, I used the following for my gear:

    Nikon D200 w/vertical grip
    Tokina 12-24mm f/4
    Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8
    Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8
    Nikon SB-600 Speedlight
    Lightsphere v2
SanDisk 16GB Extreme III Compact Flash Card

All shots were handheld and were taken by me as long as there's a watermark on the photo. Taking my tripod along would've just been too inconvenient, so fast lenses were a must. Most walk-around and action shots were taken in JPEG, while the more composed and posed shots were taken in RAW.

PHEW! In total, I took over 1600 photos, and 718 of them ended up being good enough for processing and posting, which isn't too bad considering most of those were duplicates (took 35 photos of the Mona Lisa alone thanks to the crowd around it). If anyone has any questions about my trip or the photos, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for looking!

I bet most of those remaining 882 are still 100 times better than anything I could take.

I never like your picture threads because the photos are always so out of focus and blurry

Cool stuff, spring is a phenomenal time to visit Europe...congrats to your dad on retirement.

Beautiful pictures... France kind of losses its romance when your sitting at a 4 star restaurant and a group of people come by and piss on a wall.... Beautiful pics none the less

Awesome pics! I really like the Eiffel tower at night, reminds me of your Seattle at night pic. Man, those first few pictures were depressing. But the rest were just beautiful! I love how you make the colors come out.

P.S. Did you see the hunchback?

Almost! There were tons of people at Notre Dame and I'm sorry to say that I could've easily mistaken some of them for hunchbacks...haha

The WWII stuff really hit home, especially having relatives on both sides of my family that fought in the war. A lot of our fellow tourists shed tears, especially when they played the National Anthem and Taps at the cemetery. Standing on the beaches was a religious experience...to be there and touch the sand where so many fought and perished was a feeling that mere words, let alone photos, describe properly.

I can only imagine. . . Hopefully I can make it over there soon, the pictures are great and to me invoke a similar feeling.
