    cheap camera mount

I decided to make a camera mount today. The hard part is I didn't want to have to buy anything to do it. So I cut a 5" piece of 1" sq tubing. Then a 2" piece of 1/4" by 2" steel strap I had lying around for the platform and welded them together. Next I happened to have a 1/4 20 bolt that was just the right length and one of those nuts with a flange on it so the nut and flange spin separate. I drilled my hole and welded the "flange nut" on. This way I can run my 1/4 20 until it bottoms out in the camera then turn the flange nut until the camera is tight on the platform. Here's some pics. Just wanted to share. This is not the camera I will use to film with don't worry. It was just one I had at work.

questions for the super camera guru's on here. With no padding and having this mounted in a baja bug will I break my camera? Do I need to add some sort of shock absorption system? If so could I just add a few layers of weather stripping on the mounting area as padding?

Is the threaded insert in the camera plastic or metal?

Metal should be alright, but I would still Isolation mount it. www.mcmaster.com has great isolators for cheap.
