Ok so I definitely need a new camera

This a long story so bare with me here. Alright so my current camera is an HP 945. I know its a crappy camera but I pretty much got it for free since my dad works for HP. However I'm actually on my third one. The first one inexplicably stoped taking pictures so I called customer support and they sent me a new one under warranty. A week later I go to the Pebble Beach and it again suddenly stops taking pictures at the show and won't even turn on. So again I call customer support again and again they sent me a new one. So today I go to the Black Hawk car museum (a vinatge car museum in Danville, really cool place if anyones knows about it) I take about 52 picture. I came home and downloaded them and every single one was extremely blurry and the color was extremely off, and now the camera is yet again refusing to turn on. So needless to say its time for a new camera.

Can someone recomend a good camera for me. I've been looking on DPreveiew but I thougth I'd ask here since there are alot of photographers here. I don't need something to complex I'm far from a proffesional. I don't want something too expensive,$300-400 max would be good. I'd like something with a fairly decent zoom and doesn't take 20 minutes to take a single picture like the POS HP. I use the camera mainly at car shows/ races etc. But most of all I don't want a camera thats going to crap out every other month. Can someone give me a little advice.

I like olympus cameras. I have had mine for 3 years now. It is really out dated but works perfectly.

you'll be hard pressed to make a bad selection from Canon's powershot series for a good point-and-shoot.

    Thanks.

Theres a pretty good camera store near my house I'm going to go take a look at some tommorow. Nikon or Cannon definitely seem like a good way to go.

I just got the Olympus Stylus 800 for Christmas. Pretty impressed, so far. Big, bright LCD, quick start-up and shoot time. 8 meg resolution, camera user guide built into the memory, etc....Give it a look.

Best price on pricebragger.com is ~$325 today.

i don't even know what to tell you since i have no idea what people expect from simple P&S cameras
I'd say pretty much anthing that looks solid and takes pictures since you won't be able to take very creative pictures with any of them.

    well yes and no
because most of the creative stuff on those pix was done in Photoshop and also shots tend to be taken during good lighting conditions.
I felt very limited with my wife's Fuji Finepix S5000 last year and that wasn't a simple P&S camera either.
