Sudden concert photography gig

I spent last weekend working at Sakura Con as the Corporate Liaison Coordinator, but the manager of Kumiko Kato, a rising Japanese pop star, needed a concert photographer in a pinch, so he hired me I got to be their persona liaison throughout the convention and hanging around her was...definitely not something I'd complain about Here's some shots...since it WAS a concert, lighting was pretty tough.

Nice shots as usual Armin! I know it is def. alot tougher to get a clear shot of a moving object in low lighting. The Subject wasn't bad either too

Sweet... Great pics! Even with the lighting, they're great... actually I think the lighting MAKES them great... adds to the colors and life of the shots

Actually I TOTALLY would have if her manager wasn't there, along with some of the convention higher-ups who, knowing the Shocker themselves, would have definitely frowned upon my usage of it in a picture with her

nice shots armin... concert photography is so tough but i love it. one of the hardest things about it is the access... normally you are only allowed to shoot the first 3 songs and the security is less than accomodating. looks like you had full access though which is awesome. the shots turned out really well, wouldnt know it was your first concert shoot.

Thanks, Bryan! I didn't know that normal concert photography was so strict. I guess I was really lucky to have full access...but being on the Relations staff, I had pretty much full access to everything at the convention

yeah thats the best way to do it... is be working with the promotion staff for the artists. if you're a magazine or newspaper photographer or whoever else they want you to come take photos and publicize it but they dont cooperate much... 3 songs and you're out at most places so you better be in position and ready to go as soon as the artist comes out on stage. its the most frustrating part about it... if that wasnt the case concert photography would be at the top of my list.

Wow damn...well I did take a few concert photos of Xzibit last year at the Global Import Car Show since I had my press pass (thanks to Subiesport) but they kicked us out after just one song...so I guess that goes along with what you're saying. Case in point (with my old Coolpix 4500)...
