shift before your turbo starts spooling up. so if you're on stock turbo, 2000-3000rpm's.

I have a friend with a 110 HP VW Golf who basically drives like that. City buses smoke him at stoplights.

my advice is sell your WRX immediately. This car is the hummer of station wagons when it comes to gas.

Always use light pressure on the throttle, stay out of boost, get Cobb Stage 2 and run the economy map, drive on the highway a lot, keep your tire pressures up, don't use the A/C, etc...

I wonder how feasible it would be to just remove the turbo altogether. I'd think the ECU might handle it.....

Or you could do a N/A 2.5l engine swap. Or even an older 1.8l. I'm pretty sure it'd bolt right in.

Buy an AccessPort for ~$500, and run in Economy mode. It pretty much limits your boost to nothing and runs a little leaner (I think). Of course, you'd have to do a lot of driving @ 28MPG to equal a $500 investment...

That's how I justified it to myself, anyway. I almost never drive in econ mode, though. Always 93oct "go-fast" mode. Now I'm eyeing up turbobacks so I can get up to Stage 2.

Indeed, "93 Octane go fast mode" is the only way to drive.

i drove a bit agressive these few days but end up with 25 MPG for 260 miles trip.

tire pressure for front is 33psi and rear is 31psi.

btw, any of you guys do engine breaking? or should i just use the break instead.

I always downshift when slowing down, but I don't use extreme engine braking. I use a combination of engine braking and normal braking.

I get between 28 ~ 30 MPG when I am in economy mode, but a majority of my driving is highway..
