oil leak

So I just noticed a little bit of smoke coming out from my scoop on my03 but it comes and goes. You only see it when the car is sitting idle or stopped, i noticed it maybe 5 times and the other night i finally was able to stop at a safe place to check where it was coming from. The smoke was coming from around the turbo area, it smells like wires burning. i took it to the dealer and had it checked out and they said my valve cover gaskets are leaking, the passenger side is worse then the drivers side, and the smoke is from the oil dripping onto the exhaust and that's the smell I'm getting. But it doesn't smell like oil, but anyway they wanna charge me $600 to replace the gaskets, are they something i can do myself or should i just let them do it?

Yes, but it's tight on both sides. I'd simply shop around for a shop that has better rates than the dealer. Otherwise, get factory gaskets, and you'll have to remove the intake on one side, the water reservoir on the other, then contort. Check a factory manual for the torques on the cover bolts. I'd let a shop do it because my back aches thinking about it but I've seen better days. YMMV.[/QUOTE]
