05 WRX Wagon Rear Seat Question

OK, wanted to laydown the rear seats so I could carry some luggage and had a problem I need to ask about.

Doesn't the rear seat bottom (the part your butt is on, not the seat back) pull forward to let your seat backs lay down evenly?

I can feel the place where the seat latches, but there's no release mechanism that I can find. Even went to the dealer in Macon, GA, and the service guy thinks WRX seats don't go forward. I also checked a 2.5RS and can't find the release. What gives?

The 04 wagon rears fold down, but the bottom portion doesn't move at all. You'll never get a fully flat loading floor but it's pretty close.

I'm pretty sure the 05s are the same but I'm not 100%.

My 05 is the same way. Not a completely flat surface... oh well.

Then why is the latch mechanism still there?

Mine go completely flat. You have to take off the head rests. They'll lie flat.

Are you talking about the loops that are near the rear edge of the seats?

I think you use those to completely remove the rear seat bottom. They don't fold like some SUV seats though. impozestu is right too, tak off the head rests and the seats will fold close to flat.

It goes pretty damn near flat. You could always remove the rear seat (butt) cusions if you needed the extra room but I dunno if the hinges go that far.

Those little loops are for installing a child seat. The are known as LATCH - not because they latch something down but rather it is an acronym for "Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren". They kick major butt if you have a kid. Once I get my boy's seat installed with LATCH and the top tether tightened up, it ain't goin' anywhere!

The rear seat bottom is disconnected in front of the cushions IIRC. It's been 3 years since I had them out though.

They do not fold up to allow the seat backs to lay down any farther.
