I just installed mine..i started with a razor blade and it was very difficult..a knife would make it a lot harder..a dremel tool ds work the best..i coulnt use the original platic boot holder for the shifter either...i had to take that off the leather boot and connect the leather boot to the bolts on the new trim..was yours like that Jedi??

No, I kept the plastic trim ring- it doesn't fit like stock, the bolts for the trim piece hold the plastic now. It's definitely a worthwhile mod, just for the "Ooh, Ahh" effect when you look at your shifter.

Tuca- keep the plastic ring by attachin it with the bolts for the trim. And dremel from the top so you know you're not going too far- use a pencil to mark where you need to dremel- and go slowly- take off a little, then try to fit the trim- if it doesn't fit, take off a little more- you want the trim to fit nice and snug.

    I already made the trim,,
now i want to know how to keep the plastic ring??
because the bolts of the STI Shifter trim,,will not be too long for the fitting.
and the ring plastic thingy that is attached to the boot is a little wide and tall.
What mmore i have to dremel?
    Thanks
    Tuca

    Jedimaster,,it will not fit.
The plastic ring that holds the shift boot is kind of strange,,and i dont think there is anyway of attaching the STI Shifter trim to somewhere.
Where do the STI trim screws go into??
they wont be fixed to anything.

It took me the whole day..but finally i did it =)
I drilled the holes without taking the leather boot from the plastic thingy,,i just drilled holes with leather and everything.
Anyway,,the fit is difficult and it was boring.
some of my bolts stayed disaligned ,,like not very straight.
    Thanks
    TUca

Tuca- are you at least happy with the result? It sounds like you followed our advice.

I just did this yesterday. I left the plastic thing on the boot. The trim screws were just long enough to go through the plastic trim, even with the lip pressed up against the sti trim.
