    Custom-Wired Radar Detector

Here are some pics of my custom-wired radar detector. I got sick of looking at the curly wire that blocked my dash and clogged my power outlet, so i wired it through the dash, up the passenger-side pillar, and through the roof. The whole thing took 20 mins and the result is well worth it.

    It sure does look interesting.

I got a question regarding this detector. Does it actually work? I mean are you satisfied with the results and if so, please let me know the model and the brand, because i find myself in search of one, but until this time none of the ones i am aware of is reliable.

    Thanks

bel (pro rx65), valentine (v1) and escort (8500 x50) make some of the top radar detectors. they are on the high end though

This is a Beltronics Vector940.. I got it a year ago and i love it; it's saved me a bunch of times. No radar detector is perfect, but this one is very good.

i was thinking about doing the same thing, but instead i thought i'd put it above the rearview mirror.

but while some sight say it should be higher (to "see" over traffic) the most reputable sights seem to think that it should be set low.

but i don't want it just hanging out in the wind, begging cops to 'ticket me' and theives to 'steal me'.

so now i'm think about just going remote (sr-7, etc) but that's just freekin' expensive.

but ya' gotta do somethin' to dodge the tax man.

    trip.

circuit city put mine on in the logical spot, ran it under the dash. Sure its not that crazy, but for 25 bucks, and 10 minutes of your time... you cant go wrong.

If I was the inventor type, I would make a replacement rearview mirror that had the rador detector built into it. The display would be on the glass, sorta like the new side mirrors with turn indicators built in. It would be ultra stealth... might be nice for places that rador detectors are not allowed too.

Who knows, maybe it's been done, but if anyone sees this and does it and becomes a millionaire.. please remember me at Christmas
