but while some sight say it should be higher (to "see" over traffic) the most reputable sights seem to think that it should be set low.

but i don't want it just hanging out in the wind, begging cops to 'ticket me' and theives to 'steal me'.
That's how I got mine hooked up

Look closer when there is sunlight. There is a tintband at the top of my windshield. It's not very dark but it does limit detection according to V1. I keep my detector just below the rearview mirror for that reason and I've never been bothered about it.

Does anyone even sell a new car without tint across the top of the windshield nowadays??

When I'm at work tomorrow I'll see if I can capture it with the digital camera.

Would the rear sensor not work better if the detector wasn't right below the roof. I plan on wiring mine through the dash to free up my power outlet and putting my detector right below the rear view mirror.

i know that my Range Rover and LR Discovery doesn't have a tint band, as well as my WRX. i'm 99% sure that my 2001 SAAB 9-3 that i had didn't have one either.

if you own an escort just check out their site. they sell a hardwire kit so you dont have to worry about frying anything.

Is this the cord that you were talking about. If it is how exactly does it work. Do you just have to splice it in right behind your current 12v outlet? If that's the case it's going to be in the mail today.

that should do it fo you. i used one similar for my 4500. it comes with a scotch-lock to tap into the 12v wire and a ring terminal for ground.
