Well, not sure which speakers you mean, but to venture a guess YES.

Sony Xplods are no good(read: suck)
    Speaker model will help though.

Polk/Momo speakers are nothing to get excited about in terms of sound, but they look different. But, stay away from Sony unless someone gives them to you.

From the Polk/Momo speakers I have heard they sound excellent! IMO Sony makes one of the worst products on the market. If you read the ratings for Momo 5 1/4 and the 6 1/2 (Size of the WRX) they get really good reviews. If you compare technical specs of these compared to others they are one of the top speakers in terms of frequency responce, RMS power rating, and peak power rating. The only other speakers I would consider are Pioneer REV Series 6 1/2 or some Infinity Kappas. Otherwise stay away from Sony!

Sony Xplods they're very cheesy. sound crappy, and a very cheaply made product. Is all bling and no swing...

I was disappointed when they came out with these, I used to like their older stuff a lot. Even bought a deck with changer setup that was Sony. Really sweet stuff. But that Xplod stuff ..

I don't know how much you want to spend, but Polk/Momo speakers would probably do a little better than other mainstream ones like Pioneer or Infinity. If you want something better and more expensive, go with Eclipse, JL XR components, Diamond Audio, CDT, or Focal.

I don't think they sell anything besides mainstream products (Fosgate, Sony, Pioneer) at retail stores. I would check out www.sounddomain.com. That site is one of the best for prices and selection. You can also check Ebay. A lot of people don't trust Ebay for stuff like this but for my old Caprice I got 4 speakers brand new in box for dirt cheap. You get ripped off at retail stores is the bottom line unless you know somebody who gets an employee discount at Best Buy .

Personally, I would not want Best Buy or Circuit City type places to install speakers I didn't buy from them. Some of their employees are just plain stupid (I know from first-hand experience talking with some of them..). Like this one car audio guy thought that sub-woofers had "springs" instead of voice coils. Anyway, find a reputable local shop that specializes in car audio. The install will be better, and getting good sound is half good products and half good install. The bottom line is that the installation will make or break a good stereo.

Around the Chicagoland area the average price to get speakers installed is $40/pair which seems a lot to me since I have experience of doing it myself. It really isn't that hard to tell you the truth because you can find step by step instructions on how to remove your door pannels. From my experiences so far the WRX is an easy car to work on in terms of taking trim off and replacing it. If you really want a pro to do them I would look under Automotive Customizing in the yellow pages.
