Question Compression Horns in an STi

THis is my first post so i just wanna say hello to everyone first! There's a 85% chance that i will be purchasing a 2004 STi next month. I have been reading a MILLION of the posts in this forum and have gained a bit of knowledge abuot the car. I just have a quick question. SInce the car doesn't come with a radio/speakers. I was wondering how "well" compression horns would fit in the car...I used to have them in my 97 Eclipse GS-T and they sound AWESOME!!! i don't think i can ever go back to a regular component audio set after being spoiled with the horns. I am just afraid that i would kick the horns because they mount right above your feet (under the steering column). Anyone in here have these type of speakers installed and could give me some feedback? BTW, i'm totally looking forward to getting a 04 Black STi...!!! I wan't really impressed with the styling of the car but after one test drive i was SOLD!!!! ok i'll stop rambling now. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

ps i have attached a pic of the horns that i want to install on the car.

So are those just Image Dynamics mid-basses or do those come with tweeters too?
I imagine they sound similar to kick pods and have great versatility for setting up a great soundstage.

Yes thehorns are the tweeters and the mid range speakers would go into the door. And they sound AWESOME!!! i used to have them in an eclipse and when you close your eyes you could swear that you were sitting front row at a concert!!! I'm just afraid that my feet would get in the way driving a stick car. I have big feet hehehe. btw, i'm 6ft 3in tall and was wondering how comfortable an sti would be for me

Cool. Yeah I heard a $400 set of Image Dynamics components. I really liked them and the mid-bass was great. So your Eclipse was not manual?

what size is that midbass? you might have more trouble mounting it in the door than installing the horns.

i have never heard horns, always wanted to.

good luck you will love the sti

max depth with the IA adaptors is 2.88" i think. over that you will probably need a custom door pod or something.

6.5" you need an adaptor for about any speaker i think, the doors are very shallow.

the car is wired despite not having a stereo. there is an antenna in the back window, and it is powered, so make sure you hook up your power antenna lead from your deck

Im sure with enough $$$ you can find someone to custom fit the 6" in the doors, or even get kickpanels for the 6". Only problem with the kickpanels is that you'll loose that lil' step pedal next to the clutch.

These are nice!!!.. My friend has two sets of these. He's debating to install the second set in his wife's car or selling them.
He also bough that beast of a 10" that Image sells (I think it was imagedynamics what he got, anyway), the magnet/motor on that thing is probably as deep as it is wide

If I get a chance I'll get and post pics.

I believe so. Not sure what the actual model, they got two models. There both the same diameter but the magnets and assembly is better on the higher end ofcourse.... but one is big, and the other is woah big. Impressive looking to say the least.

Yeah, they have pretty big magnets and baskets. But, the high-end Shocker and Resonant Engineering subs put them to shame. Those subs are insane!
