My $90 Uniden (or is it Whistler? LOL) from Best Buy works well enough for me. Paying attention to your surroundings, understanding how radar and laser works and learning the patterns and way your particular detector picks up signals and decoding that information on your own will make you very effective at recognizing true threats. Sure, a V-1 would enhance that even further and be more valuable to an inattentive driver, but the extra expense just isn't justifiable to me. The few tickets I've ever gotten years ago have been in situations where an advanced detector probably wouldn't have saved me.

yeah, passport/valentine, its the same deal... its the laser guns that are killer, all my friends who have gotten tickets and my one ticket have came from cops shooting laser.

I agree. $400 for it isnt worth it at all. If cops are using laser i dont care what you got they are gonna get you either way. Radar detectors are only good for a heads up. Meaning if they are shooting other people you might detect it and have ample time to slow down. If your the target your screwed.

On top of that now i see cops in a variety of unmarked cars. They will pace you and then your toast. They definately have the ball in their court.

And i agree with the laser discussion, i just got "killed" last week and my radar went off but i was dead by that time. Damn cops hidding behind the bushes Don't they have anything better to do. heh??

theres a site, i think www.radar.com or something. They ran a test with the Valentine, Escort 8500, Bel 90 and a remote mount system (sensors in grill and on rear plate so cops dont notice). The verdict was the Escort and Bel 90 won, they were too close to call. The valentine came in a more distant third (or second ?). I was surprised by the results. I have an Escort 8500 for the record and it works well. But be careful because the new guns (very $$$) have an instant on mode. The site said that youll be lucky if your detector makes a sound if you get hit, it's on and off that fast . SO be careful, my opinion is the valentine is kinda big and gaudy lookin. But function over form. If only honda drivers would learn that....body kits, why. More go than Show.

Valentine gets slammed because of it not having all of the bling bling bells and whistles... Who cares... all you need is the arrows and awesome K band sensitivity around here.

I bought it before I even took delivery of my WRX.

It was the first (and probably best) mod I've done.

Well all i see in Washington State is laser. The bottom line is laser will own you. Its too fast. If your detector goes off from laser.....youve already been hit.

Laser jammers need to get developed. I heard the ones out now are jokes.

Well then we are a lot more lucky than you. The cops around here use K, Ka, and Instant On Ka.

I love mine. Like Josh I had it before I had my car. As for radar.com, Motor Trend did a similar test and the V1 took tophonors for performance but only came in second due to the price. I swear by my V1.

400 dollar seems like a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a radar detector, but I did it and have absolutely no regrets. I would rather have it than an ECU reflash.
