The Escort Passport 8500 has a $500 option for laser jamming that works very well....according to the tests I've seen.

I love them, but their company can suck my @$$, 2 years ago I purchased one to use in my Prowler, the sucker keep falling of my windshield and the X-band was driving me nuts. So I returned it and got an Escort 8500. I had no problems until someone stole it. So 2004 comes in, and my new STi needs protection from the law, I decided to order one and give it another try. I order through the website and I get a call stating that if I purchased this V1 I cannot returned it since I had already returned one of them. So I cancel and told them to stick it up their @$$. So Escort here we go again

I have an escort and love it. I never drive without it. I have a friend who has a v1. It really performs identically. Some situations the 8500 is better, others the the V1.

Bottom line for me is that both give you more than enough notice to slow down in just about any situation.

SkyJock: There are laser jammers that work effectively. There's a thread floating around about a Lidatek jammer that the guys on the M5 board swear on. The thing works. Look into it.

The laser jammers are legal...since lasers are regulated by the FDA, not the FCC like radar.

    Thumbs up

Active radar jamming is illegal per the FCC (regulatory agency for radio waves). Passive radar jamming is considered legal, but not very effective (hence why those Rocky Mountain Radar jammers are basically a waste of money...).

It's perfectly legal to jam (or diffuse) laser/lidar, as there is no governmental agency that currently regulates light transmission in that particular manner (edit, FDA according to above post). It MAY violate a local ordinance in terms of "interferring with a speed monitoring device", but that is unlikely at this point. So technically, you could probably hook up a Reagan era Star Wars Missile Defense System to the front of your car and not a damn thing anyone could do about it until you accidentally blow up the local Kwiki Mart.

With regard to laser, the less reflective surfaces on your car, the more stealth you will be. Big headlights, license plates, fog lights make excellent targets, along with white and light colored vehicles. A black C5 Corvette with no plate, for example, would not provide a strong reflection until it was very close to the laser source.

    Speed safely!

I love my V1, has saved my ass a few times now. If I was in a state that used laser I would probably invest in a laser jammer as well Bastards will never catch me!!!! Another thing that helps me out is that I drive quite inconsistantly I speed for a few seconds and slow down. Like if somebody tries to pace me I will speed up for about 5-10 seconds until they completely disapear from my rear view and then slow back down and it usually works to get annoying people off my trail. I have only run into a few persistant folks, but usually when there is bad weather and I don't like to push the handling envolope when its raining or snowing so I wait for dry weather which provides much more predictable handling traits to embarrass them

Just get one and mount it like under your hood with a little hole. Only problem is you can't use the reverse sensor. Or just throw it under your seat if they pull you over

Lasers actually emit xband radar. Knowing this saved my ass. I was going 95 in a 75, and picked up a single xband as I was getting ready to come over a hill. I stomped the brakes and was at 80 by the time I came over the crest. Sure enough, .5 sec later I was hit with laser...
    V1 kicks ass.

I have picked up kband up to 5 miles away, but that's living in the open prairies of wyoming/montana/north dakota.

The V1 probably doesn't have the best "logic" mode, but that's a plus to some speeders
