    Radar Detector!

Does anyone know anything about the Escort Solo cordless Detector or the Escort Passport 7500 or 4600 Detectors. I was looking for a mid range price level detector. If I didn't spend all of my income on my 04 Rex , I would get The top of the line Escort or the Valentine. I can't afford them any time soon though. I am willing to get either of these if they are good qaulity Radar Detectors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Cobra was the first in the business of radar detectors, and I think is the best, and cheapest, depends if you want your radar detector to talk to you, ;like mine.. :P

What model do you have? I'm new at these and don't know much about them. I heard of Cobra and know they are pretty reliable. Thanks

Mines 3 years old, and still works like a charm, minus the nice lady voice now sounds like an old man :-) Thats that spending 3 summers on a hot dashboard does..

I dont have it in front of me, but the newer ones are probably twice as more accurate than mine.

Any newer cobra will be more than great for you, I am sure

www.cobra.com <- dont buy from them, they are overpriced, but you can read about them.

Well, I went and got a brand new cobra 9860 off ebay for $100. It doesn't seem like I could really beat that price. The escort solo (not the Solo2) I was looking to get really got bad reviews. Going cordless wasn't as big to me as the thing actually working good and detecting police radar. So I looked into it and took all of your advice and went with a cobra. Thanks for all the help on this

If you're worried about the cord getting in the way, check this: Hardwired power for the BEL 980

One of my friends recently installed a Phantom4 in his car. We drove a few hundred miles, and it seemed to work great. It's a great detector and it even jams radar and laser. The price isn't bad either.

This is a very sensitive subject and people who have used many of them are sometimes very subjective. I'd spend some time on researching reviews that are thorough on the testing. They can get very detailed on angles of testing for capturing the signal and over hills and the like. Speaking as someone who has been driving since 76 I have seen a lot of evolution in this market. The early days was the "fuzzbuster" and for some time afterwards that name was used generically for any radar detector.

But all in all you pretty much get what you pay for, nowadays. I'm currently using a cordless Bel which works much better than my old Solo (not a Solo2). I've had very good luck with it and originally started using the cordless models for the ability to quickly migrate them over to the motorcycle. The Escort did indeed suck in comparison, but was reported to work better with a DC cord connected to it for 14V. I never tested that so dunno.

Good luck and beware the "instant-on" cause those babies will bag ya quick.
