    custom door panels

heres my new front doors. it took forever, but i think they turned out pretty good. there was no room back there for bigger magnets, so the doors had to come out some to hold the new speakers. - jl audio 6.5xr component set with the woofer below at an angle and the separate tweeter mounted where the stock one was.

thanks. i had a lot of help doing them and most of the 5 weeks it took was trial and error plus hours of sanding. i learned a lot in the process though. for the rear i decided not to mess with the back doors, so i used a plasma cutter to make holes to mount 6.5" coaxials in the back dash. theyre mounted on mdf and everything is sound dampened. a jl 300/4 in the trunk powers everything. i think it sounds great, was well worth the work. the angle on the front speaks makes all the difference in the world.

nice work, you don't see to many new ideas these days. I stuck my 6" on the floor in some kicks, then 4" in the factory hole angled up, and then tweets up in teh plastic triangle pieces.

(I just received my sound deadening to do my doors, but here is an old pic)

    And the tweets

Sorry if I kind of hijacked your thread, didn't mean to.

Hey Ervv173, the speakers are attached directly to the door panel? How do you keep the panel from vibrating? Is it fiberglassed on the backside or at least dynamatted (or some equivalent)?

heres the door 3/4 of the way dynamatted with the jl tweeter installed. the inside of the door is completely covered too. i used some stuff called Brown Bread, better than dynamat and half as expensive.

I did my doors with brown bread too (and my trunk). The stuff is awesome... I definitely prefer it to brown bread...

heres the backside. you can see the vinyl wrapped over the edges. the color isnt a perfect match but the texture is real close. the speaker itself is mounted into an mdf ring which is attached to the panel.
