    Dimming Electric Gauges

I installed 3 Autometer Cobalt gauges but want them to be able to dim them. I plugged into the two wire plug behind the radio but I can only get dimming opposite of the dash lights. When I switch the wires I get illumination but no dimming on the autometers. Any ideas as to what Im doing wrong?

I used the 2P connector for CD illumination shown on the page above.

    + Purple
    - Orange

This gives me correct dimming off the steering column dial when the lights are on.
