I'll go with both, and lower production costs.

I'd say cost savings and that's it.

It's not rigidity or weight since the sunroof has been available in other markets. A company's choice of options to offer depends on the marketing. It's not cost; it's the increase in MSRP. The Impreza is already fairly expensive for its size, and another $1000 option makes it even higher. Expensive dealer installed options are fine, but ones from the factory are obviously permanenent that can't be deleted. At the time, they probably felt like such an expensive option could make them harder to sell. Now that the test of the WRX sales has been successful, they will now offer it.

When I was buying the car the dealer told me that you cant get it with a sunroof because of the rollcage that the car has. I guess I'll take his word for it.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about putting one in, but now I won't. They are nice to let the heat out during the summer. Leave the windows down and somebody will help themselves in at least where I work.

ASC installers (American Sunroof Corp) will install additional roof bracing as part of their install. It's standard practice required my ASC.

    My car will have one.

So I'm guessing they just wanted to keep the cost down during the first couple of USDM model years.

Nope, no sunroofs here in Canada. Dealer told me it interferes w/ chassis rigidity... we DO get the heated seats and side mirrors though. Could never go back
