Well, I can't really answer your questions at to WHY....... but I can say that before I did my uppipe, downpipe and on stock boost, I would constantly get close to 810 sometimes 820 degrees Celsius cruising in 5th gear, at about the same boost and speed you noted. Note: 810 C = 1490 and 820 C = 1508 I would occasionally see 830 C. Now with my uppipe, downpipe and running larger injectors and fuel pump, I rarely if ever hit 800 C.
I would assume that your assumption about closed loop is correct??
