When do you get highest EGT temps?

Hi Gang,

I have an Autometer Sport Comp EGT gauge installed. The probe is located on the driver's side manifold (cyl 2/4) at the cast bump at the Y. Car is stock.

My question is when do you get your highest temps?

I get close to 1400 deg F when I raced through the gears simulating a 1/4 sprint. During each shift the temps drop then jump back up after the shift... seems normal, I would expect high temps during WOT and full boost runs. But I also get my "max" temps at normal highway cruising. Zero boost, maybe a tad in vacuum... part throttle... 65-80 mph.... I get 1400 deg F and it just hangs there. Granted... 1400 deg F isn't anything to worry about... it's not dangerously hot... I was just wondering if others had similar results.

Is this due to "closed loop" operating... where the ECU is reading the O2 senor and leaning out the mixture to give me the best highway MPG?

Would like to hear your thoughts and similar experiences.

Well, I can't really answer your questions at to WHY....... but I can say that before I did my uppipe, downpipe and on stock boost, I would constantly get close to 810 sometimes 820 degrees Celsius cruising in 5th gear, at about the same boost and speed you noted. Note: 810 C = 1490 and 820 C = 1508 I would occasionally see 830 C. Now with my uppipe, downpipe and running larger injectors and fuel pump, I rarely if ever hit 800 C.

I would assume that your assumption about closed loop is correct??
