Stock STI Radio 6 Disc Changer Lasted Less Than Two Months

The 6 Disc in dash CD changer broke on my STI after less then two months worth of use. I could have taken it back to the dealer and had them fix it but I just opted to replace the unit with a better system. The guys in the shop said the see these cd changers fail all the time and they are junk. Just an FYI for anyone considering a new STI. The stock system was a Clarion too.

Same here. Both of my '02's were fine; I replaced them just for better sound quality and aux-in capability.

No problem here either. I also had an 01 Lexus IS300 with a similar changer. The problem with the multi disk changer is people are just two impatient to wait until it prompts you to load. Forcing a CD in before the prompt is what mostly causes these units to fail. That is not to say one could not fail on it's own but most cases of failure are "Operator Error".

Mine's been fine since October...and the dealer pointed out to me that its a Clarion unit...

I still wanna ditch it to put in an in-dash Double DIN DVD/Nav unit though...

I'm afraid that my 6 CDs would be stuck in there

The stock head unit on my '05 STi started malfunctioning about two or three months after I bought it as well. However the car was a bit over a year old and had about 9,500 miles on it when I bought it. I replaced mine with an aftermarket head unit as well.

My stock 6 disk lasted a whole month after I bought my car Although it was used, I would expect a stock cd player to have lasted more than 3.5 years.

Mine was fine in my 03 but I still had my alpine from my last vehicle. So I just put it in becasue I still had it.
