hate my STI Stock Audio System
Am I the only person who hates the stock system? What is the best mods for the $$$ I do not want to spend a bunch but would like a major improvement.

Praise your STi system you could have a TR one. I found the best upgrade for the money was the HU.
I have had two (first one died and was warranteed)
The first was a JVC KDSH1000. It was like $350 from sounddomain.com and I loved it. USB, Aux in, Ipod, etc. but the best thing was the BBE digital processor. made the stock speakers sound purely AMAZING!! I thought I had a BOSE system for a while. Then when that died I got a Kenwood MP 832U. Same functionality, same price but no BBE. It took a little bit of playing around with the presetts and it sounds way better than stock, but the BBE processor of the JVC was unbelivable.

My opinion not count? Change the HU first.

No it does
Reciever radio should go first, trust me and 06wrx4me. I changed my stock unit to an alpine(ipod fullspeed ftw!) and the sound difference was night and day. The amp in the stock unit is absolutely the biggest piece of junk ever. You will be pleasantly happy.
If you do speakers first with stock hu you will not notice a very good improvement in sound at all IMHO. The stock deck does not have the wattage to power better speakers
