Hard Wiring Radar detector

Has anyone hard wired there Radar Detector to the cigarette lighter? Went to do it this weekend and didnt know which wire was the positive....yeah yeah duh! I taped into the red wire which is usually power and got nothing......does anyone know which wire is the power?

what kind of radar detector do you have...... if it has one of those phone jack looking things to power it (on the detector end of the wire) go to the Valentine 1 (best radar detector if you ask me) website and order the splicing kit.... all you have to do it splice the power cable into a fuse that is on when the car is on (power windows for example) and then run the wire up the a pillar and through the headliner to the mirror area where the detector is... two perks are that if you get pulled over all you have to undo is the wire into the detector, shove the wire back into the headliner,and put the detector in the glovebox or under the seat to look far more innocent (gotten me out of more than one ticket ) it also just looks so trick to have no wires running around the car.
