Size of Rear Deck Tray Speakers

Just wanted to know who has put speakers in the back rear deck tray and what size speakers fit without major drilling or modification. Wanna put speakers back there bc the rear door panels speakers suck. Dont wanna buy, then find out they dont fit......

    Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks

i'm working on putting some 6x9's on my 02 wrx, but i'm beginning to regret it because i can't find any 6x9 speaker spacers. i'll post some pics of what is under the tray if you want.

No offense, but donít use 6x9's; speakers have been round for decades for a reason. Comparing the sound quality of a pair of 3-Way 6x9's, and the sound of the same model but in 6.5" trim, circles win hands down. I know obviously you bought them already but, if you can schlep them off on someone else and pickup some 6.5"'s you'll be better off.

Posting pics are always helpfull, but have you noticed these holes are not round, they have like a dent on the side so im thinking so modifying will have to be done. I measured the holes yesterday and its like 5.25 by 5.50. i just wanna find the right speaker size but i think ill have to do some trail n error.........

Yeah, I already had the speakers and, since my pops gave them to me, I can’t really get rid of them. Plus, I now have two huge 6x9 holes cut out of the back of my back panel where they are to go. Yeah, that’s all I hear everywhere is that some round ones would sound way better and I’m sure they will, but audio isn’t really my forte anyway. I’m about to have a totally catless (loud) exhaust system, so I’m betting that I’ll be alright, pending that I can find the right speaker spacers to raise them up. Installing 6x9 speakers back here is definitely a bad idea btw. I’ve taken many pictures of what lurks behind the tray and I’ll post them up tonight!

and yes, these holes are most definitely not round

i put 6x9s in the back of my car and they sound amazing. My sound qualtiy is amazing. I had to remove the rear deck and cut holes in it, then i cut out holes in the metal part. they fit fine, and look good. It does take a while and you have to be real careful cutting the rear deck because once you start you cant go back. haha

    oops

Here's my attempt at putting 6x9's in the back. I made these general cuts over the holes.
As you can see, 6x9's aren't exactly the best fit. I made the cuts too far towards the front. Now i'm going to have to raise them up and angle them towards the front of the car. If I don't do this, they'll hit the recoil bar that holds the trunk open. I don't really feel like cutting the metal or repositioning the holes in the panel. $hit. I'm gonna have to wait until I have the tools to make a custom mdf ring for each of these-I want do it right.

Focal 3 way component speakers is what you need in the doors. Those were the best speakers i've ever heard in my life. Wish i had taken them out before i traded my other car in.

Not inherently because of their shape though; for example, many classic designs use the KEF B139 for both domestic and recording studio/monitoring use etc.

Nowadays though, a good set of components will sound fantastic. Look at Vifa, Focal etc. and avoid stuff that tends to boom-and-tizz like the plague. Go listen to a well sorted 2-channel home system and try to get as close as you can to that sound in the car (with the motor off).
